Members and guests of the Friends of Eastgate House were treated to a special event at Eastgate house on Tuesday 25 April. Welcomed by representatives from Medway Council, visitors had an opportunity to wander around the many rooms of the house, which have been beautifully restored, painted and finished. They also had a chance to hear how the rooms were going to form part of an experience so that visitors could learn about its former residents and its hidden gems.
Now that the internal staircase and historic partitions have been recreated, the building reflects more fully its former use as a family home. The addition of new facilities, including a kitchen, toilets, new heating and lighting have also improved the house’s potential to welcome visitors and host special events. Access around the building has also been greatly improved with the new customer lift. Sue Haydock, Chairman of the Friends said, 'This was a real treat for our members. After many years of supporting the project and raising awareness of the house, it’s been wonderful to see the conservation work completed. We were also pleased to meet and welcome some of those who had shared their memories of visiting the house in previous years. Such lovely memories. They can been read on our website. ' Preparations are underway to fit the house ready for its official opening to the public. The official opening date of Eastgate House will be announced shortly by Medway Council. Read through the memories of those who visited the house in previous years.
