The Friends are embarking on a fund-raising project by making lavender bags. These will be sold at the Craft Fair in the Castle Gardens during the Dickens Festival which is on 2-3 June.
We have plenty of lavender thanks to our Chairman Sue, but is in need of small-patterned, or plain, pretty cotton material and ribbon oddments to make these ‘no-sew’ lavender bags.
The committee has agreed to hold a jewellery sale at the Summer Dickens Festival on 2- 3 June, following on from the success of the Christmas Dickens Festival.
To do this, we will need donations of unwanted jewellery in a saleable condition, along with small jewellery boxes to put them in.
We were very excited to see this beautiful photograph of Eastgate House in the snow, taken recently by Poe Hills.
We wanted to share it with you, Thank you to Poe for giving us permission to use it.
Taking heed of the weather warnings, Sue was well prepared for the onset of the snow with a well-stocked larder and with the cancellation of two diary engagements, was well set up for a week of uninterrupted sewing.
Sue completed a second outfit for herself, and then set about working with the curtaining and sheeting she had bought for the purposes of making simple costumes for volunteers for the house.
Once again we had a full house for our talk by David Carder on Medieval Pilgrimages on Thursday 22nd February. It was an afternoon talk which proved to be popular.
