We are pleased to report that work has now started on the hidden wall paintings on the second floor of Eastgate House. Sue Haydock called in at the house and found Rita and Georgie, two members of Tom Organ’s conservation team, painstakingly picking off layers of paint to slowly but surely reveal the design beneath.
On Saturday 20th January, The Dickens Declaimers, a group of members from the Broadstairs branch of the Dickens Fellowship gave a reading of A Christmas Carol in the house. Three of the members acted/read the parts and a fourth gave a narration..
The Mayor of Medway, Cllr David Wildey, together with his Mayoress Mrs Denise Wildey, hosted a number of visiting mayors from around the county and further afield, on a tour of Rochester.
The tour included visiting the castle, cathedral and guildhall museum, but started with a guided tour of Eastgate House. Lisa Caleno took them through the various rooms, and explained a little of the history of the house and why each room had a special designation.
