Coinciding with National Volunteers Week (1-12 June), the celebration evening included a fascinating talk on The Real Downton Abbey and life below stairs with author and historian, Ian Porter.
After the talk, Victorian style tea and cakes were served and the volunteers were thanked by The Mayor of Medway, Cllr Stuart Tranter, and The Deputy Leader of Medway Council, Cllr Howard Doe. They went on to emphasise how much they appreciated and valued the support of volunteers, whether it was helping to run family activities, organising events, guiding visitors around historic sites or dressing up in wonderful costumes to attract the crowds at the many free festivals held in Medway every year.
