Over two evening in April the house was open after hours for those who wished to see progress on uncovering the wall paintings on the 2nd floor. Tom Organ, the conservator, took us through the various processes of picking off the many layers of paint without damaging the painted plaster beneath. It is painstaking work, very tiring on the eyes, working with magnifying glasses and sharp scalpels under bright light. Progress can be been in the photograph being viewed by Friends.
Good progress has been made on the wall paintings on the 2nd floor, and the conservators are beginning to move up to the 3rd floor to see what remains up there. Our famous ‘face’ is here, and more of it has been revealed. The photograph shows Friends taking a closer look.
